A care guide for the mealworms:

1. Optimal storage

  • Temperature : Store the mealworms in a cool, dry place. A temperature of around 8-10°C is ideal. A vegetable drawer in the refrigerator can be a good storage location as long as the temperature is not too low.
  • Container : If the mealworms arrive in a closed container, transfer them to a container with air holes to ensure adequate ventilation. A small plastic container or cardboard box with fine holes works well.

2. Feeding the mealworms

  • Food : Mealworms are not picky and enjoy a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, such as carrots, apples or potatoes. These not only provide nutrition but also moisture.
  • Water : Avoid standing water in the container as this can lead to mold growth. The moisture from the food is usually sufficient.

3. Hygiene

  • Cleaning : Keep the container clean by regularly removing dead food and mealworms. Weekly cleaning is recommended.
  • Substrate : A simple substrate such as oatmeal or wheat bran can be used as substrate. It also serves as an additional source of nutrition.

4. Observation

  • Activity : Pay attention to the activity of your mealworms. Active mealworms are a good sign of their health.
  • Development : Mealworms go through different life phases. If you are considering long-term breeding, find out about the conditions for pupation and development into beetles.

5. Precautions

  • Allergies : As with all insect products, those with allergies to shellfish or dust mites should exercise caution.
  • Direct Contact : If you have sensitive skin, contact with mealworms may cause irritation. Use gloves if necessary.

6. Usage

  • Feeding time : Offer mealworms to your animals in appropriate quantities to avoid overfeeding. The live mealworms are an excellent source of fresh protein.

By following these care instructions, you can ensure that your MyInsect live mealworms remain in optimal condition until they are prepared. Enjoy the benefits of a natural, nutrient-rich diet for your animals with MyInsect.

Shipping Information:

  • The animals are transported loosely packed in a cardboard box. Among the various shipping methods tested, this has proven to be the most gentle method, keeping the animals vital and causing few casualties.
  • In cases of extremely hot (above 27 degrees) or cold (below 0 degrees) weather conditions, we reserve the right to temporarily stop shipping live animals to ensure their safety during transportation. This could lead to a possible extension of the delivery time.
  • Live animals are shipped Monday to Wednesday before 10:00 a.m. to ensure they do not remain with the carrier over the weekend. There is no shipping on holidays or pre-holidays.

When you receive the package, it is recommended that you immediately remove the mealworms from the container and place them in shallow plastic containers - these should be high enough to prevent the animals from escaping. Make sure the layers of worms are no higher than about an inch and store them in a cool place; ideally at a temperature below room temperature of a maximum of 21 degrees Celsius - otherwise the larvae could pupate within one to one and a half weeks! For even better results, we recommend keeping it even colder or refrigerating. It is best to use wheat bran and untreated carrots as food for your mealworm larvae.
